Suggested Podcast Questions
Below are seven suggested questions to get us started. Please feel free to ask all of them, or select the ones that best suit your audience. Each is designed to open a substantive answer with a clear takeaway for your listeners.
1. What do most people get wrong about preventing dementia?
Key takeaway: “Preventable” does not mean “your fault.” The often-quoted figure that 45 percent of dementia is preventable is a population-level statistic. It means that if every person in a population eliminated risk factors like uncontrolled blood pressure, diabetes, hearing loss, etc, cases would fall by 45 percent across that population. It does not mean any individual who develops dementia failed to prevent it. Confusing population risk with personal risk leads people to blame themselves, or others, for something far more complex than a single choice.
2. Controlling blood pressure sounds like a simple fix. Why do you say it may be the single most impactful thing most people can do for their health?
Key takeaway: Blood pressure is the leading modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular disease and premature death worldwide, yet fewer than one in five of the 1.4 billion adults living with hypertension have it under control. The gap is not medical complexity. It is systems, awareness, and follow-through.
3. Brain health can feel overwhelming. Where do you suggest people start?
Key takeaway: Optimal blood pressure, optimal blood glucose, and low inflammation are the three foundations of a healthy brain.
4. Knowledge alone rarely changes behaviour. As a certified Tiny Habits coach trained in Dr. BJ Fogg’s Behaviour Design, what do you think works best for long-term behaviour change?
Key takeaway: Lasting change comes from behaviours that are easy to begin, easy to sustain, and that build into meaningful outcomes over time. Motivating people or extreme willpower and providing reminders are rarely the answer.
5. How does menopause change the brain, and what can women in midlife do about it? Key takeaway: Hormonal shifts in perimenopause and menopause bring real, measurable cognitive changes, and the evidence points to specific, actionable steps rather than simply waiting it out.
6. What is the most overlooked factor in optimal brain health?
Key takeaway: A positive aging mindset has been associated with roughly eight additional years of life.
7. If someone listening wanted to do one thing this week for their brain, what would you tell them?
Key takeaway: One well-designed behaviour, tied to something a person already does daily, is more powerful than an ambitious plan they abandon within a week.
These are starting points rather than a fixed script. I am happy to discuss any brain health, blood pressure, or behaviour change topic relevant to your audience, so please feel free to bring your own questions as well.
Scope of Discussion

Questions that fall exclusively within psychiatry, clinical psychology, neurology, or basic neuroscience research are outside my scope of practice.
